Nagar Van Scheme has been started by the Government of India. The vision of this scheme is to create Nagar Van / Urban Forest in each Class-1 city or city having Municipal Corporation / Municipality for providing wholesome healthy living environment for the residents and thus contributing to growth of clean, green, healthy and sustainable cities.

Hon'ble Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India has, on "World Environment Day (5th June, 2020), announced the implementation of the revamped "Nagar Van" Scheme to develop 200 "Nagar Van" across the country in next five years.

The scheme primarily aims at creation of "Nagar Van" (Urban Forest) each of size 10-50 ha. in cities/towns having a municipal corporation or municipality.

As the primary objective is to create forest in urban areas, the first aim will be to protect forest land within cities/towns or its fringes from degradation and encroachment, and actively engage local residents and different agencies in developing biodiverse forests for social and environmental benefits in an urban landscape.

Funding Pattern -

The National Authority shall release fund as grant, directly to respective SFDAs. The grant of Govt. of India will be as per the cost norm of Rs. 4.00 lakhs per hectare.

Under the Nagar Van Scheme, two areas have been selected in the State in the first phase -

  • Haridwar
